What Starting Out is: Starting Out is a community based support program for pregnant and parenting young women living in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs.

If you are:

	A young single woman under 25,
	Pregnant or with a preschool aged child,
	Wanting contact with other young women,
	Needing somewhere to live,
	Concerned about your pregnancy or your role as a parent,

Starting Out may be able to help

Starting Out is staffed by a team of workers who are sensitive to the particular needs of pregnant and parenting women. Workers can visit or meet with young women at a convenient location.

What Starting Out Offers

Pregnancy counseling and information about all of the options available to you. These include abortion, adoption and becoming a parent.

Antenatal Support and Education where you can talk with other young pregnant women and learn about your pregnancy. Individual support can be offered.

An opportunity to talk in private about personal issues and any problems that you may have.

Supported accommodation and/or assistance to help you find secure housing.

Outreach Support in your home to help with parenting and practical living skills.

Advocacy and help with dealing with other community services.

Camp-based Parenting/Recreational Program where you can learn new skills, relax and have fun with other young women and their children.

Information and referral to other Services relevant to you including health, legal, financial, childcare, employment, education and housing.

Peer Support and information from trained young mothers who have experienced pregnancy and parenting on their own.

Young Women's Groups where you can meet and talk with other young women in a safe and friendly environment and

	develop your parenting skills,
	have fun and share common experiences,
	build friendships and supports,
	find out about your pregnancy, your child's growth and development and looking after yourself and your child,
	share your experience of being a single parent,
	learn about other resources and services available in the community,

The Centre is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm weekdays.
